What is Play Based Therapy?
Play Based Therapy uses play — a child’s natural way of expressing themselves — to help children work through feelings and experiences. It allows them to communicate in ways that feel safe and natural while learning coping skills.
What should we expect in the first session?
Adults: The first session is mostly about getting to know you and what you're hoping to achieve through psychotherapy and counselling. Together we develop a plan of action and work towards achieving your specific goals.
Parents and Children: We will start with a Parent Intake session (no child present) where we will discuss all of your concerns and determine where we will start. Next, we set up a meet and greet, this is a 30 minute session where your child attends with parents to meet me and see the counselling space. We will focus on building a connection and making therapy a "safe place" to make them feel comfortable.
How long are sessions?
Individual sessions are typically 60 minutes. Family or parent sessions may run slightly longer depending on needs.
Do you involve parents in the counselling process?
Yes. Parents play a vital role in supporting their child’s growth. To support this growth strategies, progress, and ways to reinforce skills at home are shared and discussed.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes, I offer secure online sessions for older children, youth, and parents who prefer the flexibility of virtual counselling.
How much does counselling cost?
Session fees start at $180. Many extended health benefits cover counselling with a Registered Psychotherapist. I recommend checking with your provider to confirm coverage.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Counselling is confidential. For children, I balance confidentiality with keeping parents informed about progress while protecting the child’s trust.
How do we get started?
It’s simple! You can book a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit. From there, we’ll schedule your first session and begin building a plan together.
